So let’s start here. Swelly Belly Band

In the summer of 2003, the phone rang in the HysterSisters office. A man was on the phone describing a product he created to help his girlfriend through her recovery. I dubbed it the Swelly Belly Band(tm) and asked to see a sample. He sent it. I ordered some in various sizes. The rest is history. It’s the best selling product in the HysterSisters Store.

This is a strange product but very effective.

First of all the Swelly Belly Band is purple, not pink (as some images show). It arrives in a ziplock plastic bag, folded flat with an enclosed brochure.

**Major hint: Read the instructions!

I know the band looks flat and uninteresting. Reading the brochure explains that this product will turn “gel like” and cold when it is hydrated. Wet it. Follow the instructions on the brochure (but do not wring it). The band stays cold and gel-like as long as it is hydrated. If it stays out in the air over night, it will eventually dry back down to a flat shape. It can be hydrated again and again. Or keep it in the refrigerator or freezer to keep it cold and ready to use.

Yes, its wet. If you don’t like wet, cold products on you, you will not like this product. You can keep the wet away from you by wrapping it with a plastic kitchen wrap. Or some gals slide it through a bread sleeve.

Incision type: The band is intended to be worn directly over your incision, snugly. Order a horizontal band for your horizontal, bikini-cut incision. The vertical is for vertical incisions.

Sizing: The band comes in three sizes (in each style of horizontal or vertical) Princess:Comfortably fits 31″ to 44″,Extra Princess: Comfortably fits 44″ to 52″ and Queen: Comfortably fits 50″ to 58″ (add $5.00 to price).

***Hint: If your sizing overlaps two sizes, you can select the smaller size for snugger fit or the larger size for a looser fit. The “arms” of the band can always be adjusted with a stitch or two or by tying a knot in one of the band’s ends. 

The cold band helps keep the swelling down to a minimum and helps to stop the itching as the incision is healing.

Some women buy two. They wear one and keep the other in the refrigerator.

Some women wear it under their clothes when they go back to work.

Other women do not like the idea of something damp/cold against them and do without this product and go straight to the abdominal binder instead.
